We shall call this one a container barn find, why you ask, well because this very rare 1968 DeTomaso Mangusta was literally found in a container stored inside a barn where it has sat for the last 30-plus years. Only recently has this rare DeTomaso Mangusta seen the light of day as the owner has seen fit to auction it off on eBay.
This Mangusta carries a VIN of 8MA522 which translates to the 11th built in 1968. Further inspection tells us this Mangusta features factory steel hood and rear gullwing doors unlike other Mangustas built in 1968 which were made out of Aluminum. Also this Mangusta is believed to be the very first made with pop-up headlights. This car was said to be running when it was parked back in 1979 with around 40k miles. The engine is a 289 Ford with a 4 barrel carburetor mated to a ZF manual transmission.
Some believe this DeTomaso Mangusta could be a prototype given the pop-up headlights, steel hood and rear gullwing doors although nothing has been documented to the authenticity of the vehicle. The seller is looking for a buy it now price of $99,999.
